Local Sand Trivia

At beaches in Samoa perfect spherical tiny sand balls cover the sands. Walking towards or among the spheres well-disguised tiny crabs quickly scatter and vanish. As soon as the tide receives sand bubbler crabs tunnel up from grainy dens and start its twice-daily sand cleaning activity. The crab feeds on organic matter in sand, leaving behind balls of sand in strange star-like patterns in the sand. Sand bubbler crabs can cover an entire beach in tiny sand balls before the next high tide comes.
