While most sand mining is for construction some is to source metals. Could a solution to this part be found in outer space? Luxembourg, a leader in the satellite communications industry, aims to be Europe’s center for space mining and has passed laws and set up centers to promote it. Geologists believe that asteroids have way higher metal concentrations compared to anywhere on earth, making space mining potentially profitable. There are about 13 000 near-Earth asteroids to start with.
