Local Sand Trivia

Översättning på gång, så länge den engelska: Nestled between white sand dunes and the Atlantic Ocean in northern Senegal Lake Retba or “the Pink Lake” draws attention. While sand is pink at some places here it’s the water that especially in the dry season is bright pink. The pink hue comes from the Dunaliella salina algae that thrive in salty environments. And salty is sure is, the sand at the shore is mostly salt. If standing in the sand corridor between the lake and the ocean you can choose to swim in the sea or float in the pink lake.
