Local Sand Trivia

Above the Arctic Circle at the Barents Sea shore the Russian village Shoyna is slowly vanishing under sand. Hard fishing disturbing the ocean floor in combination with permafrost and deforestation is believed to have released the sand that for the last 50 years has swept up from the ocean. A bulldozer regularly pushes back sand that gradually swallows the village. Villagers have found ways to co-exist with the sand and have pride in their way of life, living close to and with nature.
