An annual international sand Sand Sculpture Festival, FIEAS, on the Algarve coast in Portugal has since 2003 drawn sand artists and attention from far. It’s described as one of the largest sand sculpture events in the world. Over 45 thousand tons of sand is spread out over an area twice that of a football field. About 60 artists create detailed works of art in different themes as discoveries, music and lost worlds. During the evenings the scene is lit and the festival holds various workshops.
