Local Sand Trivia
Being landlocked, without a coastline, does not stop Paraguay from arranging world champion games in sand. In 2019 it hosted the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Asuncion not too far from the river beach Playa de La Costanera. Beach soccer is growing fast. It’s a crowd pleaser with traditional football moves adapted to the sand. It has more of everything; aerial play, spectacular dribbles and lots of goals. Not to mention sand :-)Â
