Sand Origin

Playa Coronad/ Coronado Beach

Local Sand Trivia

Outside Panama City huge artificial islands lay, created in large with great amounts of sand. Sand was pumped from the sea bottom and transported via a 3 km/2 mi submerged floating line at high tides. A lagoon-like rock dike was draped with a geotextile to hold sand in place while letting water pass. Large vibrating pins were stuck into sands several thousand times shaking it to a nearly solid structure where residential buildings now stand.
