Sand shot up slopes of a small pit, made in the steepest angle the sand can maintain, makes it nearly impossible to escape the ant-lions sand trap. The insect can be found in loose sand during its larvae or bug state in Slovenia as in other sandy locations. Ant-lions dig deep pits and hide in the bottom. When an ant falls in and tries to escape the ant-lion bombard it with sand for pit sides to collapse and bring the prey down. It injects its prey with enzymes and sucks the nutrients out.
