The uninhabited Caroline Island is the world’s easternmost point on land. Its beaches are the first place on Earth to receive sunlight during most of the year. The atoll is considered one of the world’s most pristine tropical islands. Looking closely at the coral sand you’ll see that most grains are tiny shells and bits of corals. Kiribati is the only country situated within and all four hemispheres. It stretches into the eastern and western, as well as the northern and southern hemispheres.
