La Brea Pitch Lake in Trinidad is the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world. Asphalt from here has paved roads of Buckingham Palace, many of the first asphalt roads of New York City and is used to insulate compounds for electrical industries. The lake’s asphalt is a mix of water, oil gas and sand. Tar sand, rich in bitumen, is numerous in the area. It’s a natural wonder of great social and economic value. While tourists come here to walk on its surface others come for curative baths.
