Local Sand Trivia

Tills svensk text om landet hunnit översättas –  här är en engelsk: In Haiti toxic sap or bark of the Sandbox trees used to be mixed with sand and thrown into still water to temporarily stupefy fish for easy catching. The name, Sandbox tree, comes as its unripe seed capsules used to be turned into sandboxes to hold fine, dry sand for blotting ink used before blotting paper, and later non-blotting pens were invented. Each of the desks in the US Senate Chamber still has a blotting sand container, looking like a salt shaker in a wooden tray made for writing tools.
