The fossil grain of sand was part of a crinoid stem, a sea lily that lived in the area during the Devonian period, and has been preserved since before the age of dinosaurs.

This fossilized grain of sand once belonged to a prehistoric sea lily, a crinoid, predating the age of dinosaurs. Throughout the ages, its shape preserved.
