It's not about OUAW or SAND It's About You and How Sand Connects With What Awes You
Do you want to connect with something beyond the self? Feel linked to ideas, people, and places around the world? Do you want more awe, “oh-wow” in everyday life?
It’s what sparked the concept of OUAW!
Everything within OUAW connects to sand. At the same time, it’s not about sand per se. Instead, it’s about a sense of oneness and connection to those oh-wow feelings, no matter where you find them. And sand happens to be a great connector!
The idea of collecting parts from around the world and bringing them together came from a desire to feel close to places, activities, and people, regardless of distance.
OUAW’s jewelry includes sand from around the world; from deserts, mountain ranges, rivers, and seas. From villages and big cities. Or are shaped after individual grains of sand.
Jewelry for a sense of something greater…
Imagine how people all over the world, in every nation, head outdoors to collect sand. And how a few grains of each sand join into a piece of jewelry for you to wear the world.
In short, that’s the story of all AKIN Sand lockets with free-flowing sand. Or at least the start.
…and jewelry reminding of the greatness of the small
No two grains of sand are exactly the same. The sand you see on a beach, in a desert, along a dirt road, on sports fields, or in mountain streams can appear similar.
But look closer to discover what’s hidden in plain sight – nature’s masterpieces, individual grains of sand. Each unique in color, shape, and structure.
Each piece of jewelry in the GRAINS collection is precisely shaped after selected grains of sand.
Why
sand?
The list is long. For its free-flowing nature and the fact that you can find sand in every corner of the world. For how it connects to culture, history, science, sports, construction, flora, fauna, and more. Sand is more than meets the eye!
Sand is one of the world’s most used raw materials. Your life wouldn’t be the same without it. Sand purifies drinking water, is the base for concrete, asphalt, glass, electronic components, and much more. The global demand is high – there’s even a sand mafia.
Sand can reflect the similarities, uniqueness, and beauty of places, nations, and people. Sand-grains mirror how something seemingly small can have a huge impact, proving that what awes can hide in what might appear plain and ordinary.
That grains of sand are tiny enough for a few grains from each country to fit into a piece of jewelry to wear the world is a bonus
The name OUAW [oh-wow]
It’s an acronym for Once Upon a Wednesday. You can find awe any day, not only on the first day of the week, on special holidays, or on weekends. Your next big awe-story might just start Once Upon a Wednesday.
STAY CONNECTED. WEAR THE WORLD!
For me, jewelry is more than an accessory. It can reflect something beyond the self and create that OUAW [oh-wow] feeling. I hope you’ll feel the same if you choose to wear OUAW.
Wide sandy beaches, vast desert areas, sand-framed waterways worldwide, but above all, warm-hearted people are “oh-wow” to me. Yet, I rarely leave my base in Sweden.
The concept of gathering sand from across the globe was born from longing for connections with faraway places, remarkable people, and the thrill of the extraordinary.
My driving forces are insatiable curiosity and a yearning for freedom. As a sand nerd, I get an outlet for both.
