About 200 tons of sand is spread over Vaduz Town Hall Plaza in Liechtenstein yearly. Being one of the world’s only two double landlocked countries, Uzbekistan is the other; with no beach in sight neither in the country nor in any neighboring ones does not stop Liechtenstein from arranging international beach volleyball tournaments. Beach volleyball likely originated in Hawaii, became a sport in California and spread globally during the 1930s. It’s been an Olympic sport since 1996.
